The millennial mayor earned praise on social media when he delivered his promise to free al of the 23 arrested from the picket protest of Regent workers over the weekend. Now, the snack food maker decried how Sotto had unfairly judged the situation, saying he branded Regent management as anti-labor when they were just asserting their corporate rights.
The striking Regent workers protested unfair labor practices and perpetual contractual arrangements despite years in the company.

“Inuulit ko, hindi nakikialam ang LGU sa isyu na sakop ng Dept of Labor. Hindi ko masasabi kung legal ang dispersal. Ngunit pwede naman ipagpatuloy ang kaso na hindi pinakukulong ang mga manggagawang hindi na nga sumusweldo,” Sotto said to explain why he interfered in the dispute.
