Workers allowed to cross to and from general, modified quarantine areas: Palace

Workers will be allowed to travel for work-related reasons to and from modified and general community quarantine areas, Malacañang said Thursday as the majority of the country shifts to a more relaxed lockdown on Saturday.

Workers who need to travel to a different community quarantine area have to present to authorities in checkpoints their employee ID, and another ID indicating their place of residence, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said.

"Yung mga allowed po mag trabaho sa iba't-ibang quarantine areas, they will be allowed provided that they are working in an industry that is allowed to operate," Roque said in a Palace press briefing.

Roque, however, reminded the public that "non-essential" travel remains prohibited. For those who need to travel for reasons unrelated to work, a clearance from the local government unit is needed, he said.

"Hindi pa po natin pinapayagan yang non-essential travels," he said.

Only Metro Manila, neighboring Laguna province, and Cebu City in Visayas will shift to a modified enhanced community quarantine by May 16 until May 31 as these places were identified to have a high risk of a coronavirus outbreak.

The rest of the country meanwhile will be under a general community quarantine.
