Manila mayor orders weekly clean-up drive

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Tuesday signed an executive order mandating 896 barangays and frontline City Hall offices to do a weekly clean-up drive.

Executive Order No. 43 covers all barangay chiefs as well as heads of the Market Administration Office, city hospitals, city universities, Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), Manila Barangay Bureau (MBB), Parks Development Office (PDO), Manila Tourism and Cultural Affairs Bureau (MTCAB), Department of Public Services (DPS), Public Recreations Bureau (PRB), Manila City Library (MCL), Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW), Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) and Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

“All...concerned officials are hereby directed to conduct a once a week clean-up drive in their respective offices and other facilities and areas within their jurisdiction or under their care and management,” Domagoso said.

The order also mandates city hall personnel to submit a weekly report of compliance with Domagoso's order through the Office of the city administrator Felixberto Espiritu.

Domagoso added the order institutionalizes the clean-up drives which his administration has started in support of President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to clear all public roads and sidewalks of obstructions.

In his report on the first 100 days of Bagong Maynila before the members of the City Development Council at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, Domagoso said the DEPW, DPS, MTPB, and Manila Police District have been consistently clearing and cleaning roads beyond the 60-day deadline set by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
