Manila police raids ‘Recto University’

The Manila City government raided Recto University on Wednesday, December 18, leading to the arrest of 42 individuals and confiscation of more than 10 items allegedly used for falsification of public documents.

Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso earlier warned establishments in Recto to halt their illegal activities, but last Friday, the Mayor learned that even the city government's receipts have been subject to forgery.

The Manila Police District Special Mayor’s Reaction Team (MPD SMaRT) led the raid together with members of Bureau of Permit and Licensing, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, Police Station 3, and other police offices.

About 42 individuals were accosted and were put under investigation following the raid. Meanwhile, a MIMEO graphing machine, an LG computer CPU, two EPSON printers, three computer LCD monitors, three metal dry seals, and some assorted receipts were confiscated.

Police believe that the items were being used to forge identification cards, certificates, diplomas, and other public documents.

In his talk with the arrested individuals, Domagoso urged them to change their habits.

He also warned policemen around the country's capital tolerating this kind of illegal activities to stop as the government will hunt them.

"As long as I am the Mayor of Manila, you stop. We know you, we will find you, and you will not like it," Domagoso said.

"Panahon na para maisawata ang Recto University," he added.
