Team Magic Island from Barangay Bagumbayan emerged victorious yet again in this year's grueling Regatta (boat race) on July 25, Thursday, making it their third consecutive win in the competition.
Regatta is part of the Taguig River Festival celebration, where participants race using fiberglass boats used by the fisherfolk of Taguig. It also plays an important role in the annual festival as it pays tribute to the ancestors of the city who were mostly fishermen. Each boat is paddled by four members and a boy who serves as a drummer in charge of cheering the paddlers on as they row to a turning point about half a kilometer away and then go back to the starting line.
Gracing the event were Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano, City Councilor Gigi De Mesa, City Councilor Darwin Icay, City Councilor Jimmy Labampa, SK Federation President Maryruth “Beng” Maximo, and Taguig SK leaders.
